Masuk ke dalam album “Eternal Sunshine”, lagu ini sebenarnya diadaptasi dengan perubahan dari lagu yang pernah dipopulerkan oleh Brandy dan Monica pada tahun 1998. Selain adanya perbedaan pada lirik lagu, “The Boy Is Mine” versi Ariana memiliki genre lagu yang lebih modern, sedangkan versi Brandy dan Monica ber-genre R&B klasik.
