Lirik dan Makna Lagu Birds of A Feather - Billie Eilish, tentang Mencintai sampai Ajal Menghampiri

Billie Eilish baru saja merilis album terbarunya berjudul Hit Me Hard and Soft pada 17 Mei 2024. Album kedua Billie terdiri dari 10 lagu, salah satunya “Birds of A Feather” yang diketahui menjadi soundtrack dari serial Heartstopper season 3. 

“Birds of A Feather”, track keempat dalam album Hit Me Hard and Soft, adalah sebuah lagu manis tentang cinta yang langgeng selamanya. Potongan lagu ini sempat muncul dalam trailer Hartstopper 3 yang dirilis Netflix pada 13 Mei lalu. 

Dalam trailer tersebut, tampak karakter Charlie tengah bermonolog di depan cermin. Ia sedang berlatih untuk ‘menembak’ sahabat sekaligus pujaan hatinya, Nick. 

Cuplikan itu ditutup dengan adegan Nick menjemput Charlie di rumahnya dan menggandengnya untuk pergi ke sekolah. “Birds of A Feather” mengalun mengiringi langkah keduanya: “I’ll love you ‘til the day that I die. ‘Til the light leaves my eyes.”

“Birds of A Feather” adalah sebuah ‘janji’ sehidup-semati, untuk terus bersama hingga ajal di depan mata. Billie berharap sang kekasih hati akan selalu ada di sisinya, bahkan sampai ia telah berada di liang lahat.

“I want you to stay ‘til I’m in the grave,” senandungnya, ’Til I rot away, dead and buried. ‘Til I’m in the casket you carry.”

Kendati demikian, Billie menyisakan sedikit skeptisisme tentang konsep hubungan yang bertahan selamanya. Sebagaimana cuaca, segala hal tentunya bisa berubah. Namun, toh, tak ada salahnya untuk menaruh harapan. 

“Can’t change the weather, might not be forever. But if it’s forever, it’s even better.”

Secara keseluruhan, “Birds of A Feather” adalah sebuah ode yang manis tetapi tetap realistis tentang sebuah hubungan romantis. Sebuah gambaran cinta sejati yang tak akan terpisahkan sampai tiba waktunya malaikat maut menjemput.
